Minister Aladrović at the Conference organized by the International Labour Office and the European Commission
Minister of Labour and Pension System Josip Aladrović participated at the round table of ministers, at the conference “Enhancing social partners' and social dialogue's roles and capacity in the new world of work”, organised by the International Labour Office in cooperation with the European Commission on 5th and 6th March 2020 in Brussels. At a special panel of high-level government representatives - round table of ministers, held on 6th March 2020, Mr Nicolas Schmit, the Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights addressed the attendees. Commissioner Schmit highlighted social dialogue and strong social partners as key elements of economic growth and social justice. He further stressed the necessity of a strong social dialogue that must be adaptable to the current changes and firmly respond to the challenges of globalisation, climate change and technological developments that underlie the world of work and the overall global economy.
In his capacity as the Chair of the EPSCO Council, Minister Aladrović addressed the need to adapt to the challenging times and new changes prompted by the digitalisation and automation of a growing number of jobs. Minister stressed that the role of social partners in the process of adapting to the future labour markets is extremely important and that their contribution is invaluable because of direct insight into certain business environments. Knowledge exchange through open communication between all partners will contribute to the joint goal of ensuring fair working conditions and stimulating environment for all.
Taking into account the importance of social dialogue, Minister Aladrović highlighted the recent ratification of the Tripartite Consultations Convention No. 144 and presented the priorities of the Croatian Presidency, as well as the labour related upcoming projects and conferences at the EU level. In conclusion, Minister Aladrović emphasised the importance of all parties to cooperate and jointly shape economic and social policies and the future of Europe.
Alongside Minister Aladrović, ministers from Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Kosovo, Lithuania, Malta and Sweden and their deputies, attended the round
table meeting that was moderated by Mr. Heinz Koller, Assistant Director-General, Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, ILO.
At the Conference, a number of panel discussions attended by the representatives of workers, employers and governments were presented, as well as the results of the project that was initiated in cooperation with the International Labour Organization and the European Commission. In drafting the above mentioned project on enhancing social partners’ and social dialogue’s roles and capacity in the new world of work, the social partners outlined the main issues that may arise when discussing the role of social partners and their influence on the future of labour. Three key issues outlined were: how to strengthen social partners’ representativeness and to increase their institutional capacity; how to support the autonomous role of social partners and what role do social partners play on digitalisation.
