Minister Aladrović at the EPSCO Council meeting in Brussels

Brussels, 10 December 2019 - Minister of Labour and Pension System Josip Aladrović and Minister for Demography, Family, Youth and Social Affairs Vesna Bedeković participated at the meeting of the Ministers for Employment and Social Affairs in the format of the EPSCO Council. Ministers Aladrović and Bedeković presented the priorities of the Croatian presidency in the field of employment and social policy: skills development as an incentive for employability and competitiveness, demographic challenges and the future of social policy, enhancing well-being at work, promoting gender equality and empowering women in the labour market.

The Council Conclusions on inclusive labour markets were adopted at the meeting: improving the employment of people with a vulnerable position in the labour market, encouraging Member States to promote tailor-made training and lifelong guidance and counselling for persons in a vulnerable position to facilitate continuous learning, at work in particular.

The future of the EU acquis in the field of social rights regarding employment and industrial relations was also discussed during the meeting. Minister Aladrović emphasized that the social policies of Member States must focus on harmonizing rights for all persons in the world of labour.
"Social rights should be applicable not only to workers, but to all persons in the world of labour - self-employed, persons who pursue self-employment, part-time workers and platform workers", explained Minister Aladrović.
On the margins of the meeting, Minister Aladrović met with Regina Doherty, Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection of the Republic of Ireland, and Magdalena Valerio Cordero, Minister for Employment, Migration and Social Security of the Kingdom of Spain.
