Depositing the instrument of ratification of Convention No. 144 on tripartite consultations
By ratifying Convention No. 144 on tripartite consultations from 1976, the Republic of Croatia became 152. Member State of the International Labour Organisation which has ratified the Convention concerned.
On depositing the instrument of ratification, Mr. Gordan Grlić Radman, Minister of Foreign and European Affaires of the Republic of Croatia stated that the ratification of Tripartite Consultations Convention demonstrates a commitment of Republic of Croatia to the core values of the International Labour Organization. Croatia supports the highest level of protection of labour rights, workers' freedom to associate and collectively bargain, workers' rights to health and safety at work as well as their rights to a family life. These rights and values are additionally strengthened by many international instruments that the Republic of Croatia has already ratified to this purpose. By ratifying the Convention on Tripartite Consultation, the Republic of Croatia joins in commemorating the 100th anniversary of the International Labour Organization. Subsequently, on receiving the instrument of ratification, the Director-General of the ILO, Mr. Guy Ryder, welcomed the ratification by Croatia, stating that:
The Convention on tripartite consultations is one of the main governance conventions which underlines the importance of inclusiveness of the social partners at all stages of the International Labour Organisation's activities in relation to international labour standards. The purpose of Convention No 144 is to strengthen social dialogue at national level through consultations between the government and employers ' organisations and workers.
Convention No 144 on tripartite consultations will enter into force twelve months after the laying down of the ratification document, which will be 26. February 2021.
The Convention on tripartite consultations is one of the main governance conventions which underlines the importance of inclusiveness of the social partners at all stages of the International Labour Organisation activities. The Convention lays down an obligation on Member States to carry out consultation procedures between representatives of the Government and representatives of social partners, employers and workers, on matters relating to the activities of the International Labour Organisation, in a manner consistent with national practice.
The obligation to consult will be to fulfil the questionnaires, the submission of the adopted instruments and for all other activities arising from the Statute of the International Labour Organisation.
The Convention on tripartite consultations for the Republic of Croatia will enter into force on 26 February 2021.
