Minister Aladrović participated in online consultations with Commissioner Schmit

On 18 June 2020, the European Commission organized online consultations on the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights with the Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit. The Commissioner was joined by the Croatian Minister of Labour and Pension System Josip Aladrović and State Secretary in the Ministry for Demography, Family, Youth and Social Policy Ivica Bošnjak, together with the representatives of social partners and civil society organizations in Croatia.

As part of broad consultations with social partners, the participants were asked to share their opinions on several issues that focused on the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights at national and EU level, and what actions are needed to ensure a successful and just digital and green transition of the European economy.

In his opening speech Minister Aladrović said that the Pillar has established adequate framework for improving working conditions, labour market functioning, social inclusion and work-life balance. The principles of the Pillar have become even more relevant in the current circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as in the context of the ongoing digital and green transition. Minister further stressed that the transition processes will not affect everyone in an equal manner with new jobs rapidly developing, and some becoming obsolete. It is the responsibility of all relevant stakeholders to make sure that no one gets left behind, by integrating the principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights into public policies

Minister Aladrović concluded that the strong coordination at EU level, as well as active engagement and participation of social partners and civil society organisations is crucial in shaping the current and future EU policies.
